A journey should not be marked by the distance, but by the experience of the steps along the way. In January of 2009, I was looking for a new business opportunity that didn't require staff or overheads and allowed me to continue to be a full-time parent to my two girls, Taylah and Madison.
I had enjoyed success in a variety of businesses and my financial position looked adequate on paper, but then came the global financial crisis, which impacted my cash flow. Meeting my family expenses was becoming increasingly challenging.
Nothing from my previous work history suited what I had in mind for a new business venture, and the idea of working for someone else didn't excite my imagination. It was while I was in this disposition that I was given a sample of the Arbonne anti-ageing skin care and I couldn't believe the hydrating benefits within 48 hours. I was hooked! Against all doubt, I quickly become an Arbonne addict and purchased the entire range. I made an undivided decision to dispose of every popular brand of cosmetics cramming my bathroom cupboards and committed to using only Arbonne.
Growing old gracefully is something I aspire to do, but to be honest, if I can keep my skin looking even one year younger, I will.
I knew little about skin care and makeup, but when I accepted that I looked and felt better and noticed an immediate difference in my appearance, I knew Arbonne was a product I could happily endorse. Friends and family were also commenting on the visible improvement in my appearance.
I aspired to know why the products were superior to anything I had ever tried, and I asked some of my friends to sample and analyse the ingredients. No one returned any of the products and in fact, some asked me how they, too, could purchase Arbonne products.
I have always felt confident to recommend a product, movie or restaurant that delivered more than my expectations, and I was happy to recommend the Arbonne skin care range to everyone I came into contact with. I made the decision to run with Arbonne as a business and signed up for the ride of my life.
When I earned my white Mercedes-Benz 22 weeks later, and my SuccessLine and I achieved Nation status in just 10 months, it cemented my commitment to the business and proved to me how fast and how much I must have talked in those first six months!
Having reached NVP status, I pinch myself on occasion, because unlike so many other business models, dreams do come true with the Arbonne system. I often reflect on how much my life has changed from someone who spent the last few years focusing on my two children, to launching myself into an environment which gave me the opportunity to create a wonderful future for myself and others to benefit from in such a short time, which is nothing short of miraculous.
Thank you to our founder, Petter Morck, for having such vision to create the pure, safe and beneficial Arbonne products and of course the business model, which allows us to deliver a premium brand with Swiss heritage, without the high ticket price.
No one can achieve this amount of success in such a short time on their own.
Firstly, you need a product that is unparalleled and delivers targeted results. Arbonne products do this and are second to none. Our extraordinarily talented formulators, Pierre Bottiglieri and Peter Matravers, and their team are committed to it. I am very passionate about educating people about the benefits of using Arbonne products.
Secondly, you need to possess a growth mindset, not a fixed mindset. You need a “just do it” attitude, focus, determination, belief, energy, enthusiasm and passion. I was fortunate to possess all of these attributes from the start, but not everyone does and that is ok — you can borrow mine until you develop your own.
Thirdly, you need people. The team is paramount to my success and everyone has their own amazing story — some returning to work, some making a total career change, some using this to subsidise their income and others just love being part of our team. Each of our team members has a diverse range of skills, which in turn benefits the entire group.
I have watched in amazement as members of my team have conquered challenges and learnt from each other's experiences.
When I first became involved with Arbonne, I opened my home to our team so we could manage training and coaching easily. During this time, wonderful camaraderie was formed, giving our team immense confidence and strength as we continued to grow. When I look around at the smiles on the faces of my team and the joy they are experiencing by having their own successful business, I feel extremely proud of what can be achieved. Even in this economic climate, the growth has been phenomenal, and to watch the team grow and flourish has inspired me to achieve greater heights.
Each step has been incredible, and while I have to admit that like any career, you have to put in the hours to truly succeed, the proof is certainly in the pudding.
There are so many people I want to thank that it's impossible to list them all, but let me start with Carol O'Rourke, the beautiful and persistent lady who sponsored me. It took her three months to do so. It was the sample she gifted me that convinced me to become a product user and taught me a very valuable lesson: persistence. I will always be truly grateful that you persisted. Secondly, I will always be very grateful that you introduced me to Louise Fowler.
Louise Fowler, without you I would never have made the decision to make this not only a business, but also a lifestyle. You have inspired so many and I am just one, but you are Australia's first Executive NVP and it is you who coaches me every step of the way. Your passion to inspire women to take control of their lives is contagious. Most of all I value our friendship. Bless you, Lou.

Once I made the decision to make Arbonne my business, I knew I personally needed internal support. I knew exactly who that person was, and I am blessed because she also said yes. Some of us come into the business knowing our strengths and weaknesses and I certainly knew mine. Flossy very quickly became an integral member of our team. My dear friend, who keeps me on track and supports every aspect of my life and keeps my family together, is also an Area Manager. I would never want to be without you and our SuccessLine wouldn't be the same without you. (You don't need a Flossy to be successful, but I just had so much going on in other parts of my life that it was important to me.) P.S. She is not available and can't be duplicated anyway!
Robyn Hoare, mother of seven, said yes and became an RVP in 28 weeks. Lani Furlong, wife of my daughter's tennis coach and State Manager, said yes and became an RVP in 32 weeks. Anne Slater, owner of major retail outlets and a formulator for other products, said yes and became an RVP in 32 weeks. Ladies, you are my chosen sisters in life. I am grateful for our friendship, partnership, intelligence, work ethic, fun, support and mentoring. Without Arbonne, I would have gone through life without knowing you the way I do.

To my mum, Jenny: Your undying love, support and constant devotion has always been a fixed asset in my life, but you know we could not have done this without you. Even though Dad is not with us anymore, he was and still is with me every step of the way. You are both forever in my heart.
There are tears in my eyes as I write this. To Taylah and Madison: I know how confusing life was for you last year and you were the two people who had to make the biggest adjustments, which wasn't easy for you. You were very happy having a professional mum for seven years and the transition was dramatic for you both. However, as you have always done, your strength of character, compassion, your own leadership and your sisterhood guided you through and there is not another mother in the world more proud of the extraordinary, unique individuals you are. Your generosity of spirit toward me achieving my goal and helping others achieve theirs will never be forgotten. I am forever learning from you; my love cannot be measured. You are both gifted and destined to do great things and to make this world a kinder, more generous earth to live our lives on. You bring beauty and joy to my heart every second of every day. You both deserve a standing ovation!
To Alastair: Thank you for your support, encouragement and belief in me and for all you do for our gorgeous girls.
We have the next handful of Mercedes-Benzes ready for our team as they move up the ranks, and immense growth to look forward to in the months and years to come.
All of this became possible because I dared to dream and searched for a career that wasn't just a job, but an opportunity to build a legacy and empower others to join me on this incredible journey.
